“never get discouraged if you fail.
learn from it. keep trying.”

– Thomas Alva Edison

Parents

The Edison Fairs can
be a GAME CHANGER.

Thomas Alva Edison overcame his childhood illnesses to become one of the most influential inventors of the Millennium. His determination to push through experimental failures to discover what works is at the center of our mission, vision, and belief. This is the basis for providing a safe, enriching program full of wonder and excitement, and promoting progress for the greater good.

A child’s experience should NOT be diluted by the selection of winners.

It is wise to remember many important scientific discoveries and inventions were initially not accepted nor appreciated. Opportunities for awards and scholarships are offered as incentives to students.

It’s not about being right or wrong! It’s about . . .

  • Giving meaning and purpose to your child’s education
  • Making learning fun and inspiring
  • Raising scholastic performance and enhancing a diverse set of soft skills
    • critical thinking
    • creative problem solving
    • reading, writing and digital literacy
    • communicating, networking
    • work ethic and leadership
  • Determination: 10 two letter words to motivate your child: If it is to be it is up to me.
  • Raising your child’s self-esteem.
  • Realizing new interests
  • Promoting ethical behavior – honesty, integrity and trustworthiness
  • Opening doors of opportunity never thought possible
  • Re-read the first point again

Edison Fairs can offer valuable insight and career influencing experiences.

Engaging convergent, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary learning will prepare your child for a future that is evolving at a speed never before experienced.

Without your thoughtful consideration, Edison Fairs may appear to be a nonessential program. This would be an unfortunate oversight. It is so much more than a ‘competition’. Participation alone can set in motion profound benefits every parent wishes for their child. This is not an empty statement. In a 2008 interview, Elon Musk shared that Thomas Edison was ‘probably one of the biggest role models’ for his life.

THE BENEFITS FOR YOUR CHILD

Let this experience be driven by your child’s own contributions and accomplishments. The more your child owns the process the greater the self esteem, self reliance, and self improvement. Be supportive without taking the lead. Supervise for safety, offer guidance, and be encouraging.

The greatest gift you can provide is that of being supportive while allowing your child to find what works and what does not work in a safe learning environment. You know your child best. Try lending advice before just taking over. Alternatively, share the experience of brainstorming and learning together. The more thought your child gives to overcoming obstacles leads to sowing the seeds of success through determination.

This unique hands-on educational opportunity promotes your child’s development of lifelong skills in preparation for addressing the challenges of the future. The lessons learned can raise the bar for a lifetime!

Did You Know?

Science Fair teaches it’s not about being right or wrong! It’s about discovering and understanding how nature works.

Inventors Fair promotes creative thinking leading to progress in balance with nature.

Entrepreneurism teaches about the economy of progress and being rewarded for the effort.

“It is important to recognize that the entire story of civilization is based on (science and) invention . . . historically . . . the strongest driving forces in human affairs. If children can comprehend (science and) invention, they can better understand the past and the present and predict the future more reliably.”
B. Edward Schlesingers, Jr.

Communications on Behalf of Your Child

Accurate, timely communication can be enhanced with access to parent/guardian phone numbers and or emails. This is especially important for elementary and middle school participants attending Regional Fairs. A student’s school email is intentionally blocked to prevent inappropriate communications from unwanted sources outside the system. Asking teachers to relay timely notices can add unintentional delays and missed opportunities.

Check Out How You Can Get Involved

Advice can be measured by the individual offering it. Take it from Thomas Edison.

“The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

“Negative results . . . are just as valuable . . . as positive results. I can never find the thing that does the job best until I find the ones that don’t.”

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.”

“There’s a better way to do it. Find it.”

“The secret of success: focus of PURPOSE.”
