AlicoArena

Home to Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, and Regional Science & Inventors Fairs!

Alico Arena is a 120,000 square-foot complex, which serves as the centerpiece of Florida Gulf Coast University’s NCAA Division I athletics program. Named after Alico Incorporated, whose generous contributions have made Alico Arena one of the premiere Athletic venues in South Florida and provided a home to one of the fastest growing athletic programs in NCAA Division I.

Opened in the Fall 2002, Alico Arena is home to FGCU Basketball and Volleyball programs as well as the main athletic offices. Since opening, FGCU Athletics became the fastest program to transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I in history. Alico Arena has seen the unprecedented success of the Women’s Basketball program, which has captured five (5) Atlantic Sun Championships as well as finishing as the runner up in the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship in the past six years. During this time the Volleyball program capture three (3) Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. Most recently the Men’s Basketball program finished the 2012-13 season with a program record 24 wins and it’s first ever A-Sun Conference Championship in just the second year of eligibility.

With its oval configuration, the 4,500 seat Arena’s primary function is for FGCU’s Basketball and Volleyball programs for both competition and practice. However, Alico Arena also brings people together for more than just sporting events, the Arena also has the ability to host a wide range of other special events each year, such as academic competitions, concerts, speakers, road shows, tradeshows, corporate events, athletic and recreation camps, University Commencement, High School Graduations, and corporate functions. Over the years, Alico Arena has hosted Dierks Bentley and the Beach Boys concerts, U.S. Vice Presidents Joe Biden and Dick Cheney, former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, retired General Colin Powell, and acclaimed poet and author Maya Angelou.
