Ms. Dahlia Dry, Best of Fair – Physical Science, at the Thomas Alva Edison Kiwanis Science and Engineering Fair Awards Ceremony presented by Sony Electronics, Inc.

Dahlia Dry, 11th grader, Fort Myers High School, has been selected to be a Junior and Senior Outstanding Narratives (JASON Colloquium) speaker during the opening ceremonies of this year’s 63rd annual State Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) of Florida. Ms. Dry was selected through a state-wide nomination process to present a three-minute speech to up to 1000 attendees of the opening ceremony Fair on Tuesday, March 27th at the Youkey Theatre in Lakeland, Florida. She will be one of a handful of student competitors honored at the State Science Fair speaking to inspire student to achieve positive academic goals.

Dahlia is a two-time Best of Fair – Physical Science winner (2018 and 2017 Kiwanis Science Fair) and traveled to state science fair last year, where she received a Third Place Mathematics & Computational Sciences Category Award. She also represented the Kiwanis Science Fair as an International Science Fair Finalist in Los Angeles, CA where she attained two awards (4th Place Category and Mu Alpha Theta scholarship).

She started her research project during her sophomore year of high school because she wanted to teach herself how to code using Python programming language so that she could analyze local weather data and better predict optimal conditions for sailing – a hobby and passion of hers. The following LeeSchools TV feature summarizes Ms. Dry’s ISEF recognitions for this project:

Thirty-one Finalists from the Kiwanis Science Fair will be representing Lee and Charlotte Counties at the State Science Fair beginning March 27th, 2018. Dahlia’s speech will be broadcast LIVE from the Opening Ceremony (Tue, Mar 27 at 7:30 PM) on the Thomas A. Edison Regional Science and Inventors Fair Twitter account (@EdisonFairs). Good luck to all representing Lee and Charlotte County later this month.
