Finalists from the 60th Annual Thomas Alva Edison Kiwanis Science and Engineering Fair participated at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, CA from May 14th to 19th. Each competitor had already been granted scholarships to FGCU for their work and had been recognized at the 62nd annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida STEM Competition that ended on March 30th in Lakeland.
The Intel ISEF Finalists from the Kiwanis Science and Engineering Fair competed with over 1,700 other participants from 78 countries at the week-long event. The six projects (5 Individual, 1 Team) from our Kiwanis regional science fair included eight students. They were Jay Chandar (Canterbury School), Dahlia Dry (Fort Myers High), Anna Kucera (Canterbury School), Ethan Leung, Jash Patel, and Shaan Chaudhari (Fort Myers High), Qiao Jiao (Canterbury School) and Melissa Marchese (Canterbury School).
Although congratulations are extended to all of these international STEM Finalists, special recognition goes to Dahlia Dry, a sophomore from Fort Myers High School. She received a Special Award from Mu Alpha Theta, National High School and Two-Year College Mathematical Sciences Honor Society in the form of a $1000 scholarship for her project. She also received a 4thPlace Category Award in Mathematics ($500).
The Fort Myers Kiwanis once again provided critical financial support in underwriting the travel and accommodation expenses of students from Southwest Florida to the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair and the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Their hard work and generosity is much appreciated.
