Since 2005, Elementary Science Expo has served as a showcase event for K-5 students that competed in school-based science and inventors fair competitions. This event is open to students from public, private, charter, and home schools in both Charlotte and Lee Counties. The Expo complements the Thomas Alva Edison Kiwanis Science and Engineering Fair and the Thomas A. Edison Festival of Light Regional Inventors Fair held successfully earlier this year.

This was the first year for the event at Suncoast Credit Union Arena on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College, a milestone for our regional STEM competition program. Approximately 300 students from 25 elementary schools participated in the event.

The Thomas A. Edison Regional Science and Inventor Fairs (TAERSIF) Steering Committee works year-round to organize the Regional event that hosts 700 local students. TAERSIF is a sanctioned event of the Edison Festival of Light. The Regional Fair and underwriting of student expenses for the Fairs is possible because of the support from the Fort Myers Kiwanis Club, Lee County and Charlotte County Public Schools, Florida Southwestern State College, Suncoast Credit Union Arena, Florida Gulf Coast University, Sony Electronics, the Edison Festival of Light, The Edison & Ford Winter Estates, Hodges University, the James and Eleanor Newton Scholarships, Imagine Solutions Conference, Caloosa Bromeliad Society, The Imaginarium Science Center, Southwest Florida Community Foundation, Caloosa Veterinary Medical Society, Florida Power and Light, Edison Pageant of Light, the Entrepreneurs Society of Naples, the Scientist Society of Southwest Florida, Lee Memorial Health Systems, the Lee County Medical Society and numerous private donors and volunteers.
